Geography Bee
Description
On Tuesday, November 25, 2014, Pine-Richland Middle School students will have the opportunity to participate in the National Geographic Bee. This school-wide event, which is sponsored by the PRMS GATE Department, allows students to demonstrate their geographical knowledge in many areas (General U.S. Geography, Geographic Comparisons, U.S. Physical Geography, Continents, Traveling Across America, Cultural Geography, and Economic Geography). Students will sign up to participate in this event in their Social Studies classrooms.
On the day of the competition, students will first attempt to answer a series of seven questions. Ten students with the overall top scores move on to compete in the final rounds to determine the school winner. At a later date, the school winner has the opportunity to take a written test to qualify for the state competition which is a preliminary event for the National Geographic Bee hosted by Alex Trebek.
The PRMS Geography Bee will be held in the middle school library again this year and Mrs. Batykefer, the PRMS librarian, will again assist with the competition. The top ten winners of the event will receive awards donated by the middle school GATE department. If you have any questions in regards to the Geography Bee, please call Mrs. Deal at the middle school GATE office at (724) 625-3111 ext. 2237.
